The game 'lasts' 4 hours (really more like 6-7 hours) in the sense that that is how long it might take you to get an ending screen, but that has nothing to do with actually beating the game. Its hard to explain without spoilers, but beating the game, even in a non-completionist sense of the word, is going to take multiple goes through the plot line. If there are people out that only went through it once and are going around saying the game is 4 hours thats honestly pretty hilarious. The game is beyond worth the cost. It's kind of a chilling experience. Keep in mind that there is gore, death, and strong language, and it can get kind of creepy.The game is much longer than 4 hours.

Whoever reviewed the game didn't play through it more than once (I say that because there are multiple endings depending on what you do throughout the game. The endings change radically, and you can skip text you've already read.)I got my copy for just shy of $30, but I would have paid much more. It is an amazing game and experience.

I highly recommend the sequel, as many others in this thread have. It's hard to find the 3DS version in stores, so I'd say go with buying it online if you can find it.Have fun.

IMO: 999 is a game with some pretty nice escape the room puzzles that are unfortunately separated by long, dull and entirely unskippable dialogue sequences between a small group of one dimensional kidnap victims. The premise is terrific but the execution and follow-through is very poor. Bad writing, boring characters, inane plot, terrible 'twist' ending and you have to play through the whole thing twice. Not cool.If you want a nice story-driven puzzle game go play Broken Sword instead. Or Ghost Trick.

Or Ace Attorney. Or Professor Layton. Anything but 999.
