I've been playing close to ten years now and it occurred to me recently that I've never seen a gnome played in a game that I was part of. Even online on play by post sites. A friend of mine who has been gaming since he was a small boy has never seen one played either or if he has, he can't recall it.There's a lot of hate online for the gnome and I really don't get most of it. There's this idea that someone is going to play a kinder style character that's trying to be the party prankster and the like, but I've never really seen anyone pull that or met a DM who thought it would be something that they could allow to go on.It even seems like Wizards tries to make the gnome more appealing, switching up the information about them from 3rd, to 4th to 5th edition to help them find a niche in parties and a place among the core races. What I don't get is why? The gnome seems to fit as a smaller fey race, in the way that humans are the halflings. They a different outlook on life than the other races (at least that's how they were written in 3.5) and a different culture. And best of all since people play them so infrequently you're less likely to get someone upset at you for breaking the mold and making you gnome different than the rest.Does anyone here play gnomes often?.
